All shows completed for 2017, how quickly time passes. The culmination of another successful year for the club was the ASS and President’s shows.
Entries closed on the Tuesday, and Deb and I set to work on the Wednesday to put everything together, a few less than last year, probably e reflection of the poor breeding season that some of our members have had and the unseasonal mild weather stopping the rabbits coming into coat. A few notable absentees, we hope to see you there next year. The comments from the members present were what a great venue and location Uttoxeter Racecourse is, and we look forward to returning next year. It is the wish of the members that we hold our ASS and YSS central to the country to allow easier access for more members. We rotate the Intermediate Show around the UK to give members from other areas a “local” National Show. We once again had our Autumn show at the London Championship show this year, what a great show it was, and we will be returning

next year. We wish all our members who have not enjoyed the best of health this year a speedy recovery and hope to see you at our shows next year, in particular, our Chairman Neill Gardner who was unable to judge our ASS, thanks to Michelle for stepping in at the last moment, doing a great job. The auction rabbits posted on the website were ever increasing, some real quality being posted and some top dwarfs being donated on the day, thanks so much.
Off to Uttoxeter to pen on the Friday, we arrived at 7pm and Graham was already there, pens up in no time, thick layer of shavings, pen numbers on and the first few rabbits were penned, thanks to everyone for their help.
Back at the Hall on Saturday morning, rabbits checked, and we were set up for the day. The show hall was a buzz with excitement and anticipation, auction pens filling up nicely, and thank goodness, only a few rabbits had changed sex or moved from u5 to adult in 3 days since the entries closed so only a few tweaks needed by Deb to the paperwork, mainly my fault!. It wasn’t long before our judges, Joe (Sections 1 and 2) Michelle (Sections 3 and 4) and Iansorting the young support show and the BIS in the ASS later in the day.
Thanks to all those who paid their subs, yearbook adverts, bought badges, heat lamp, 2018 calendars and the newer additions to our clothing range, show aprons, T shirts, polo shirts and hoodies. We will be at Doncaster if you have not got yours already. Remember, all our merchandise is on the website, for you to order and pay via PayPal.
There was a buzz of excitement around the auction. Many thanks to everyone for their donations of such beautiful dwarfs.. The donors receive 50% of the sale price , 50% going to the club. Although there are quite a few exhibitors who donate the full amount to the club. I am amazed by the generosity of the people who offer such wonderful stock, and by the people who buy them, knowing they are supporting the club. An earlier start of 12.30 was welcomed by all, ably assisted by Lucy Wheal recording details of the buyers, Nigel posing (the dwarfs. Lucy took on the role of treasurer and presented Deb and I with £700 profit for the club, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Results were in , Best in the under 5 show Nigel Atkinson with a lovely REW and Georgina Fry winning the Team Class with three brilliant BEWS, Zara McKell Best Junior then the big one, BIS. 20 CC winners on the table, and it was the Chocolate (Brown) that Ian made best. The first time ever this colour has gone BIS at the ASS. Many congratulations to Selina Groves, a wonderful achievement.
Trophy presentations followed then the AGM. I really good discussion followed each of the points raised, many thanks to everyone for their contribution, full details in the yearbook.
Back at the hall for 7.30, for day two. Our format of two separate shows on the two days works well, allowing people who cannot stay for the weekend the chance to show on either day, although we always want everyone to stay for the weekend. Our President Nigel Atkinson had chosen Darren Morris and George Moss to judge, they were both really looking forward to it.
It was really great to see so many people chatting about dwarfs, taking lots of photos and videos, lunchtime came and so did the results. BIS was Dawn Philips with a really nice agouti, again many congratulations on your first National BIS.
The day was drawing to a close, trophies presented, thanks to Angela and George Moss, our trophy stewards, rabbits boxed, and then it was time to clear up. We can’t thank people enough for all their help, many hands certainly do make light work. All going our separate ways, but I bet we were all taking about the same thing, What a great weekend!
Thanks for all your messages of support, Deb and I enjoy every minute of being secretaries of the best rabbit club in the world, well almost every minute!
Cheers Gary
